Let μ\mu be Lebesgue measure on the interval X=[0,+∞[X = [0, +\infty[. a) Let k>1k > 1, h<kh < k be two real numbers. Show that for every n≥1n \geq 1, and every number pp such that 1≤p≤+∞1 \leq p \leq +\infty, the functions fn(x)=nh/(x+n)kf_n(x) = n^h / (x + n)^k belong to Lp\mathscr{L}^p; show that Np(fn)N_p(f_n) tends to 0 with 1/n1/n for p>1/(k−h)p > 1/(k - h), but that the sequence of the Np(fn)N_p(f_n) is not bounded for p<1/(k−h)p < 1/(k - h). b) Let kk be a number <1< 1; show that for every n>1n > 1 and every number pp such that 1≤p≤+∞1 \leq p \leq +\infty, the functions gn(x)=nke−nxg_n(x) = n^k e^{-nx} belong to Lp\mathscr{L}^p; show that Np(gn)N_p(g_n) tends to 0 with 1/n1/n for p<1/kp < 1/k, but that the sequence of the Np(gn)N_p(g_n) is not bounded for p>1/kp > 1/k. Deduce from a) and b) that if 1≤p<q≤+∞1 \leq p < q \leq +\infty, the topologies induced on Lp∩Lq\mathscr{L}^p \cap \mathscr{L}^q by those of Lp\mathscr{L}^p and Lq\mathscr{L}^q are not comparable. c) If μ\mu is Lebesgue measure on the interval [0,1][0, 1], show similarly that if p<qp < q, the topology of convergence in mean of order qq is strictly finer than the topology of convergence in mean of order pp (on Lq\mathscr{L}^q).
