Exercise 19, § 5

Integration, V, p. 104

Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

Let μ\mu be a positive measure on TT. a) Let (fn)(f_n) be a sequence of functions in Lp\mathscr{L}^p (1<p<+∞1 < p < +\infty) bounded in Lp\mathscr{L}^p and convergent in measure to 0. Show that the sequence (f~n)(\widetilde{f}_n) converges to 0 in LpL^p for the weakened topology. b) Give an example of a sequence (fn)(f_n) of functions in L1\mathscr{L}^1, bounded in L1\mathscr{L}^1 and convergent in measure to 0, but such that the sequence (f~n)(\widetilde{f}_n) does not converge to 0 for the weakened topology of L1L^1 (take μ\mu to be Lebesgue measure on T=[0,1]T = [0,1], and use criterion α\alpha) of Exer. 15). c) Let μ\mu be Lebesgue measure on T=[0,1]T = [0,1]. Show that, if fn(t)=sin⁡ntf_n(t) = \sin nt, the sequence (f~n)(\widetilde{f}_n) converges to 0 for the weakened topology of all the LpL^p such that 1≤p<+∞1 \leq p < +\infty, but fnf_n does not converge in measure to 0.
