Integration, V, p. 117

Let T and X be two locally compact spaces, λ\lambda a positive measure on T, μ\mu a bounded positive measure on X such that μ(X)=1\mu(X) = 1. Let ff be a numerical function >0> 0 at every point of T×XT \times X, integrable along with log⁡f\log f for the measure λ⊗μ\lambda \otimes \mu. Prove the inequality

log⁡(∫exp⁡(∫log⁡f dμ) dλ)≤∫(log⁡∫f dλ) dμ \log \left( \int \exp(\int \log f\, d\mu)\, d\lambda \right) \leq \int (\log \int f\, d\lambda)\, d\mu

and show that equality cannot hold unless ff is equivalent to a function of the form g⊗hg \otimes h (apply the inequality of the geometric mean (Ch. IV, §6, Exer. 7 d)), for every t∈Tt \in T, to the function x↦f(t,x)/(∫f(t,x) dλ(t))x \mapsto f(t, x)/(\int f(t, x)\, d\lambda(t)).
