Exercise 14, § 8

Integration, V, p. 118

Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

Let KK be the interval [0,1][0,1] of R\mathbf{R}, λ\lambda the Lebesgue measure on KK, AA an uncountable set, and μ\mu the measure on T=KAT = K^A that is the product of the measure λ\lambda on each of the factors.

a) Show that every closed and metrizable subspace X of T is μ\mu-negligible (make use of Exer. 13 b) above, and Exer. 8 of GT, IX, §2).

b) Let Y be a locally compact space admitting a countable base, ν\nu a positive measure on Y, and π\pi a ν\nu-proper mapping of Y into T. Show that the image π(ν)\pi(\nu) is alien to μ\mu (using a), show that π(ν)\pi(\nu) is concentrated on a μ\mu-negligible set).
