Integration, V, p. 120

Let XX be a locally compact space, YY a locally compact space countable at infinity, AA a universally measurable subset of X×YX \times Y.

a) For every x∈Xx \in X, show that the section A(x)A(x) is a universally measurable subset of YY. Moreover, for every positive measure μ\mu on YY, the function x↦μ∗(A(x))x \mapsto \mu^*(A(x)) is universally measurable on XX (make use of the Lebesgue–Fubini theorem).

b) Let μ\mu be a positive measure on YY such that, for almost every y∈Yy \in Y (for μ\mu), the section A(y)A(y) of AA is countable. Show that the set NN of x∈Xx \in X such that μ∗(A(x))>0\mu^*(A(x)) > 0 cannot contain any countable compact set.
