Integration, VI, p. 61

Let FF be a Hausdorff locally convex space, F′F' its dual, G′\mathscr{G}' the set of subsets A′⊂F′A' \subset F' such that every sequence of points of A′A' has a subsequence convergent for σ(F′,F)\sigma(F', F). Show that, for a bounded subset AA of FF, the following conditions are equivalent: α)\alpha) AA is precompact for the G′\mathscr{G}'-topology; β)\beta) every sequence convergent for σ(F′,F)\sigma(F', F) converges uniformly on AA. (Let G\mathscr{G} be the set formed by the finite subsets of FF and of AA; observe that β\beta) implies that every set A′∈G′A' \in \mathscr{G}' is precompact for the G\mathscr{G}-topology, using Exer. 6 of GT, II, §4. Then apply Exer. 4 of TVS, IV, §1.)
