Integration, VIII, p. 72

Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

Let GG be a locally compact group, β\beta a left Haar measure on GG. For a subset HH of Lp(G,β)L^p(G, \beta) (1≤p<+∞1 \leq p < +\infty) to be relatively compact (for the topology of convergence in mean of order pp), it is necessary and sufficient that the following conditions be satisfied: 1∘1^\circ HH is bounded in Lp(G,β)L^p(G, \beta); 2∘2^\circ for every ε>0\varepsilon > 0, there exists a compact subset KK of GG such that ∥fφG−K∥p≤ε\|f \varphi_{G-K}\|_p \leq \varepsilon for every function f∈Hf \in H; 3∘3^\circ for every ε>0\varepsilon > 0, there exists a neighborhood VV of ee in GG such that ∥γ(s)f−f∥p≤ε\|\gamma(s)f - f\|_p \leq \varepsilon for all f∈Hf \in H and s∈Vs \in V. (To prove that the conditions are sufficient, observe that if g∈K(G)g \in \mathscr{K}(G) and if LL is a compact subset of GG, then the image, under the mapping f↦g∗ff \mapsto g * f, of the set φL⋅H\varphi_L \cdot H, is an equicontinuous subset of K(G)\mathscr{K}(G).)
