Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, I, 75

Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

Let aa be a Lie algebra and bb a subalgebra of aa. A composition series joining aa to bb is a decreasing sequence (ai)0⩽i⩽n(a_i)_{0 \leqslant i \leqslant n} of subalgebras of aa such that a0=a,an=b,ai+1a_0 = a, a_n = b, a_{i+1} is an ideal of aia_i for 0⩽i<n0 \leqslant i < n. bb is called a subinvariant subalgebra of aa if there exists a composition series joining aa to bb. (a) Let bb be a subinvariant subalgebra of aa and (ai)0⩽i⩽n(a_i)_{0 \leqslant i \leqslant n} a composition series joining aa to bb. Deduce from Exercise 13 that [Cn+pb,a]⊂Cpb[\mathscr{C}^{n+p}b, a] \subset \mathscr{C}^p b by observing that [ai,b]⊂ai+1[a_i, b] \subset a_{i+1} for 1⩽i<n1 \leqslant i < n. (b) Deduce from (a) that the intersection C∞b\mathscr{C}^\infty b of the Cpb\mathscr{C}^p b (p=0,1,2,…p = 0, 1, 2, \ldots) is an ideal of aa. (c) Deduce from (b) that a subinvariant subalgebra cc of aa such that c=Dcc = \mathscr{D}c is an ideal of aa. (d) When KK is a field and dim⁡Ka<+∞\dim_K a < +\infty, show that the intersection D∞b\mathscr{D}^\infty b of the Dpb\mathscr{D}^p b (p=0,1,2,…p = 0, 1, 2, \ldots) is an ideal of aa. (Show that this intersection is a subinvariant subalgebra of aa and apply (c).)
