Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, I, 79

Let gg be a Lie pp-group over a ring KK of characteristic pp (pp prime). Let x↦xpx \mapsto x^p denote the pp-mapping. For every subset EE of gg, let EpE^p denote the submodule of gg generated by the xpx^p, where x∈Ex \in E. An ideal a⊂ga \subset g is called a pp-ideal if ap⊂aa^p \subset a.

(a) For an ideal a⊂ga \subset g to be a pp-ideal, it is necessary and sufficient that it be the kernel of a pp-homomorphism (Exercise 20).

(b) The sum of two pp-ideals is a pp-ideal. The sum of a pp-ideal and a pp-subalgebra is a pp-subalgebra.

(c) Let hh be a Lie subalgebra of gg. The smallest Lie pp-subalgebra containing hh is h+hp+hp2+⋯=h‾h + h^p + h^{p^2} + \cdots = \overline{h}; if we write hi=h+hp+⋯+hpih_i = h + h^p + \cdots + h^{p^i}, hih_i is an ideal of h‾\overline{h} and h‾/h\overline{h}/h is commutative. If hh is an ideal of gg, so are the hih_i and h‾\overline{h} and the latter is the smallest pp-ideal containing hh.

(d) The normalizer and centralizer of an arbitrary submodule of gg are pp-subalgebras of gg.
