Let V and W be vector spaces of dimensions n+1n + 1 and nn over a field K. Show that gl(W)\mathfrak{gl}(W) is isomorphic to a subalgebra of sl(V)\mathfrak{sl}(V). (W can be assumed to be a hyperplane of V. Let e∈V,e∉We \in V, e \notin W. For x∈gl(W)x \in \mathfrak{gl}(W), let y(x)y(x) be the element of gl(V)\mathfrak{gl}(V) which extends xx and is such that y(e)=−Tr⁡(x)⋅ey(e) = -\operatorname{Tr}(x) \cdot e. Show that the mapping x↦y(x)x \mapsto y(x) is an isomorphism of gl(W)\mathfrak{gl}(W) onto a subalgebra of sl(V)\mathfrak{sl}(V).
