Exercise 1, § 4

Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, I, 91

Let gg be a nilpotent Lie algebra and pp (resp. qq) the smallest integer such that Cpg={0}\mathscr{C}^p g = \{0\} (resp. Cqg=g\mathscr{C}_q g = g). Show that p=q+1p = q + 1 and that Cig⊃Cp−ig\mathscr{C}_i g \supset \mathscr{C}^{p-i} g. (Use the argument of Proposition 1.)
