Exercise 15, § 4

Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, I, 94

Let ll be a Lie algebra with zero centre, D1\mathfrak{D}_1 the Lie algebra of derivations of ll, D2\mathfrak{D}_2 the Lie algebra of derivations of D1\mathfrak{D}_1, ... Then ll is an ideal of D1\mathfrak{D}_1, D1\mathfrak{D}_1 is an ideal of D2\mathfrak{D}_2, etc. (§ 1, Exercise 15 (c)). Let D\mathfrak{D} be the Lie algebra of derivations of C∞l\mathscr{C}^\infty l and aa the centre of C∞l\mathscr{C}^\infty l.

(a) Then dim⁡D1≤dim⁡D+dim⁡a\dim \mathfrak{D}_1 \leq \dim \mathfrak{D} + \dim a. (Use Exercise 14 above and Exercise 15 of § 1.)

(b) Deduce from (a) that for ii sufficiently large all the derivations of Di\mathfrak{D}_i are inner.
