Exercise 1, § 3

Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, II, 186

(a) Show that every element u∈A+(X)u \in A^+(X) can be written uniquely in the form u=∑x∈Xuxxu = \sum_{x \in X} u_x x, where ux∈A(X)u_x \in A(X).

(b) Show that {0}\{0\} is the only submodule of A+(X)A^+(X) which is stable under all the mappings u↦uxu \mapsto u_x (x∈Xx \in X). (If aa is such a submodule and a≠{0}a \neq \{0\}, consider a non-zero element of aa of minimal degree.)
