Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, II, 186

Let gg be a Lie algebra which is a free module; it is identified by means of σ:g→Ug\sigma : g \to Ug with its image in the enveloping algebra UgUg. Let U+gU^+g be the kernel of the canonical homomorphism Ug→KUg \to K. Let ii be a mapping of XX into gg such that i(X)i(X) generates gg as a Lie algebra. (a) Show that U+gU^+g is generated by i(X)i(X) as a left UgUg-module. (b) Show the equivalence of the following properties: (i) gg is free with basic family i:X→gi : X \to g. (ii) The family ii is a basis of the left UgUg-module U+gU^+g. (The implication (i) ⇒\Rightarrow (ii) follows from Exercise 1 (a) using the isomorphism Ug→A(X)Ug \to A(X). To show (ii) ⇒\Rightarrow (i), apply Exercise 1 (b) to the kernel of the homomorphism A(X)→UgA(X) \to Ug defined by ii.)
