Exercise 3, § 3

Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, II, 186

Let x∈Xx \in X. Show that the centralizer of xx in A(X)A(X) is the subalgebra generated by xx. Deduce that the only elements of L(X)L(X) which commute with xx are the multiples of xx. In particular, the centre of L(X)L(X) is {0}\{0\} if Card⁡(X)≥2\operatorname{Card}(X) \geq 2 and the centre of L(X)/(∑n>pLn(X))L(X)/\left( \sum_{n > p} L^n(X) \right) reduces to the canonical image of Lp(X)L^p(X).
