Let the algebra K[F]K[F] of FF be given the filtration (In)(I^n) consisting of the powers of the augmentation ideal II (§ 4, Exercise 6). (a) Let g~:K[F]→A^(X)\tilde{g}: K[F] \to \hat{A}(X) be the unique algebra homomorphism extending g:F→A^(X)∗g: F \to \hat{A}(X)^*. Show that g~\tilde{g} maps InI^n to the ideal A^n(X)\hat{A}_n(X) (cf. no. 1) and defines when taking quotients an isomorphism g~n\tilde{g}_n of K[F]/InK[F]/I^n onto A^(X)/A^n(X)\hat{A}(X)/\hat{A}_n(X). (Define an inverse homomorphism of g~n\tilde{g}_n by means of the homomorphism of A(X)A(X) into K[F]K[F] which maps xx to x−1x - 1 for all x∈Xx \in X.) Deduce that A^(X)\hat{A}(X) is isomorphic to the Hausdorff completion of K[F]K[F] under the topology defined by (In)(I^n). (b) Suppose that K=ZK = \mathbf{Z}. Show that the filtration (In)(I^n) is separated (use Proposition 3 and Exercise 6 (e) of § 4) and that the filtration of FF defined by it (Exercise 6 (a) of § 4) coincides with the filtration (CnF)(C^nF). Deduce that g~:Z[F]→A^Z(X)\tilde{g}: \mathbf{Z}[F] \to \hat{A}_\mathbf{Z}(X) is injective.
