Exercise 1, § 7

Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, II, 204

Let gg be a complete normed Lie algebra over KK such that

∥[x,y]∥≤∥x∥ ∥y∥ \|[x, y]\| \leq \|x\|\,\|y\|
for x,yx, y in gg. Let Θ\Theta denote the set of x∈gx \in g such that ∥x∥<13log⁡32\|x\| < \frac{1}{3} \log \frac{3}{2}. For x,yx, y in Θ\Theta, h(x,y)∈Θh(x, y) \in \Theta, cf. no. 2.

(a) We write f(T)=(1−e−T)/Tf(T) = (1 - e^{-T})/T and g(T)=1/f(T)g(T) = 1/f(T). The series ff converges throughout the complex plane and the series gg on the open disc of radius 2π2\pi (cf. Functions of a Real Variable, Chapter VI, § 2, no. 3). Deduce that, if z∈Θz \in \Theta, f(ad z)f(\mathrm{ad}\, z) and g(ad z)g(\mathrm{ad}\, z) are defined and that they are elements of L(g;g)\mathscr{L}(g; g) and inverses of one another.

(b) Let D2h(x,y)D_2 h(x, y) be the second partial derivative of hh at a point (x,y)(x, y) of Θ×Θ\Theta \times \Theta (Differentiable and Analytic Manifolds, R, 1.6.2). It is an element of L(g;g)\mathscr{L}(g; g). Show that

D2h(x,y)=g(ad h(x,y))∘f(ad y). D_2 h(x, y) = g(\mathrm{ad}\, h(x, y)) \circ f(\mathrm{ad}\, y).
(Use Exercise 3 (e) of § 6 to show this formula when xx and yy are sufficiently close to zero and pass from this to the general case by analytic continuation.)

Show that the formula

f(ad h(x,y))∘D2h(x,y)=f(ad y) f(\mathrm{ad}\, h(x, y)) \circ D_2 h(x, y) = f(\mathrm{ad}\, y)
is valid at every point of the domain of absolute convergence of the formal power series H~\tilde{H} (cf. Proposition 1).
