Suppose that K is locally compact. Let G be a Lie group of finite dimension n.

(a) Let ϕ\phi be an étale endomorphism of G with finite kernel. Let μ\mu be a left Haar measure of G. Then ϕ\phi is proper and

ϕ(μ)=α⋅μ∣ϕ(G)whereα=Card⁡(Ker⁡ϕ)mod⁡det⁡L(ϕ). \phi(\mu) = \alpha \cdot \mu|\phi(G) \quad \text{where} \quad \alpha = \frac{\operatorname{Card}(\operatorname{Ker} \phi)}{\operatorname{mod} \operatorname{det} L(\phi)}.
(Use Proposition 55.)

(b) Suppose that G is compact. Let ϕ\phi be an étale endomorphism of G. Then Ker ϕ\phi is finite, ϕ(G)\phi(G) is of finite index in G and

Card(Ker ϕ)Card(G/ϕ(G))=mod det⁡L(ϕ). \frac{\mathrm{Card}(\mathrm{Ker}\,\phi)}{\mathrm{Card}(G/\phi(G))} = \mathrm{mod}\,\det L(\phi).
(Use (a) to transform μ(G)\mu(G).) (c) Suppose that G is compact and commutative. Let r∈Zr \in \mathbf{Z} be such that r.1≠0r.1 \neq 0 in K and let ϕ\phi be the endomorphism x↦xrx \mapsto x^r of G. Then
Card(Ker ϕ)Card(G/ϕ(G))=(mod r.1)n. \frac{\mathrm{Card}(\mathrm{Ker}\,\phi)}{\mathrm{Card}(G/\phi(G))} = (\mathrm{mod}\,r.1)^n.
(Observe that L(ϕ)L(\phi) is the homothety of ratio r by § 2, Corollary to Proposition 7.)
