Let a1a_1 be the commutative Lie algebra R4\mathbf{R}^4, identified with C2\mathbf{C}^2. Let a2a_2 be the commutative Lie algebra R\mathbf{R}. Let ϕ\phi be the homomorphism of a2a_2 into Der(a1)\mathrm{Der}(a_1) which maps 1 to the derivation (z1,z2)↦(iz1,i2z2)(z_1, z_2) \mapsto (iz_1, i\sqrt{2}z_2). Let a be the semi-direct product of a2a_2 by a1a_1 corresponding to ϕ\phi.

(a) Show that (Int a)∣a1(\mathrm{Int}\, a) | a_1 contains, for all ϕ∈R\phi \in \mathbf{R}, the automorphism

(z1,z2)↦(eiϕz1,ei2ϕz2). (z_1, z_2) \mapsto (e^{i\phi} z_1, e^{i\sqrt{2}\phi} z_2).

(b) Show that the closure G of (Int a)∣a1(\mathrm{Int}\, a) | a_1 in GL(a1)\mathbf{GL}(a_1) contains, for all (ϕ,ϕ′)∈R2(\phi, \phi') \in \mathbf{R}^2, the automorphism (z1,z2)↦(eiϕz1,eiϕ′z2)(z_1, z_2) \mapsto (e^{i\phi} z_1, e^{i\phi'} z_2).

(c) Show that L(G)L(G) contains the endomorphism u:(z1,z2)↦(z1,0)u : (z_1, z_2) \mapsto (z_1, 0) of a1a_1 and that there exists no x∈ax \in a such that u=(ad x)∣a1u = (\mathrm{ad}\, x) | a_1.

(d) Deduce that Int(a)\mathrm{Int}(a) is not closed in Aut(a)\mathrm{Aut}(a).
