Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, III, 397

Let G=SO(3,R)G = \mathbf{SO}(3, \mathbf{R}). Let Δ1,Δ2\Delta_1, \Delta_2 be two orthogonal lines in R3\mathbf{R}^3 and HiH_i the subgroup of G consisting of the rotations about Δi\Delta_i (i=1,2i = 1, 2). Then [L(H1),L(H2)][L(H_1), L(H_2)] is a 1-dimensional Lie subalgebra of G distinct from the Lie subalgebra tangent to (H1,H2)(H_1, H_2) at ee.
