Exercise 4, § 1

Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, IV

Let nn be an integer ≥2\geq 2. For any integer ii with 1≤i≤n−11 \leq i \leq n - 1, denote by sis_i the transposition of ii and i+1i + 1 in the set {1,2,…,n}\{1, 2, \ldots, n\}, and by HiH_i the set of w∈Snw \in S_n such that w−1(i)<w−1(i+1)w^{-1}(i) < w^{-1}(i + 1); put S={s1,…,sn−1}S = \{s_1, \ldots, s_{n-1}\}. Show that (Sn,S)(S_n, S) is a Coxeter system and that HiH_i is the set of w∈Snw \in S_n such that l(w)<l(siw)l(w) < l(s_i w) (use Prop. 6 of no. 7).
