Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, V

Assume that (W,S)(W, S) is irreducible.

a) Show that the commutant of the WW-module EE reduces to the homotheties.

b) Show that the centre of WW reduces to {1}\{1\} if WW is infinite or if WW is finite and the longest element w0w_0 (cf. Exerc. 2) is ≠−1\neq -1. If WW is finite and w0=−1w_0 = -1, the centre of WW is {1,w0}\{1, w_0\}.

c) Show that any element w≠1w \neq 1 of WW such that wSw−1=SwSw^{-1} = S transforms CC to −C-C (show that w(es)=−ewsw−1w(e_s) = -e_{wsw^{-1}}, first for some s∈Ss \in S, and then for all s∈Ss \in S). Deduce (Exerc. 2) that such an element exists only if WW is finite and that it is then equal to w0w_0.
