Exercise 4, § 2

Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, VI

Let C′C' be a chamber relative to W(R)W(R) in V∗V^*, and let CC be the alcove with vertex 0 contained in C′C'. Let SaS_a (resp. SS) be the set of reflections in the walls of CC (resp. C′C'). The pairs (Wa,Sa)(W_a, S_a) and (W,S)(W, S) are Coxeter systems, and S⊆SaS \subseteq S_a. Show that an element w∈Waw \in W_a is (S,∅)(S, \emptyset)-reduced (Chap. IV, § 3, Exerc. 3) if and only if w(C)⊆C′w(C) \subseteq C'.
