Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, VII, 63

Assume that k=Ck=\mathbf{C} and that G is connected. Prove the equivalence of the following properties:

(i) G is nilpotent.

(ii) Every element ≠1\not= 1 of G is regular.

(Show first that (ii) implies

(ii)′' Every element ≠0\not= 0 of g\mathfrak{g} is regular.

Remark next that, if g≠0\mathfrak{g}\not= 0, then g\mathfrak{g} contains elements x≠0x\not= 0 such that ad xx is nilpotent, cf. §3, Exerc. 10. Deduce that g\mathfrak{g} is nilpotent, hence (i).)
