Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, VIII, 222

Assume that kk is algebraically closed. Let g\mathfrak{g} be a Lie algebra, V a simple g\mathfrak{g}-module, and D the field of endomorphisms of the g\mathfrak{g}-module V. Show that, if kk is uncountable,7^7 then D=kD =k. (If not, D would contain a subfield isomorphic to kk(X), X being an indeterminate, and we would have dimkD>ℵ0_kD>ℵ_0, hence also dimkV>ℵ0_kV>ℵ_0, which is absurd since V is a monogenic U(gU(\mathfrak{g})-module.)
