Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

Assume that g\mathfrak{g} is splittable. If h\mathfrak{h} is a splitting Cartan subalgebra of g\mathfrak{g}, denote by E(h)E(\mathfrak{h}) the subgroup of Aute(g)_e(\mathfrak{g}) generated by the eadx,x∈gα(h)e^{adx},x\in \mathfrak{g}^{\alpha}(\mathfrak{h}), α∈R(g,h)\alpha \in R(\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{h}), cf. Chap. VII, §3, no. 2. a) Let b\mathfrak{b} be a Borel subalgebra of g\mathfrak{g} containing h\mathfrak{h}, and let h1\mathfrak{h}_1 be a Cartan subalgebra of b\mathfrak{b}. Show that h1\mathfrak{h}_1 is conjugate to h\mathfrak{h} by an element of E(h)E(\mathfrak{h}). Deduce that E(h)=E(h1)E(\mathfrak{h}) = E(\mathfrak{h}_1).

b) Let h′\mathfrak{h}' be a splitting Cartan subalgebra of g\mathfrak{g}. Show that E(g)=E(h′)E(\mathfrak{g}) = E(\mathfrak{h}'). (If b′\mathfrak{b}' is a Borel subalgebra containing h′\mathfrak{h}', choose a Cartan subalgebra h1\mathfrak{h}_1 of b∩b′\mathfrak{b}\cap \mathfrak{b}' and apply aa) to show that E(h)=E(h1)=E(h′).)E(\mathfrak{h}) = E(\mathfrak{h}_1) = E(\mathfrak{h}').)

c) Let xx be a nilpotent element of g\mathfrak{g}. Show that eadx∈E(h)e^{adx}\in E(\mathfrak{h}). (Use bb) and Cor. 2 of Th. 1 to reduce to the case in which x∈[b,b].)x\in [\mathfrak{b},\mathfrak{b}].) Deduce that E(h)=E(\mathfrak{h}) = Aute(g)_e(\mathfrak{g}).
