Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, VIII, 235

Let R be a reduced root system, B a basis of R, and (g0,h0,B,(Xα)α∈B)(\mathfrak{g}_0,\mathfrak{h}_0,B,(X_{\alpha})_{\alpha\in B}) a corresponding framed semi-simple Lie algebra (§4). Let k‾\overline{k} be an algebraic closure of kk, and ρ:\rho : Gal(k‾/k\overline{k}/k)→\rightarrow Aut(R,B,B) a continuous homomorphism (cf. Exerc. 8); if σ∈\sigma \in Gal(k‾/k\overline{k}/k), denote by ρσ\rho_{\sigma} the kk-linear automorphism of g‾0=k‾⊗kg0\overline{\mathfrak{g}}_0= \overline{k}\otimes_k\mathfrak{g}_0 such that ρσ(Xα)=Xρ(σ)α\rho_{\sigma}(X_{\alpha}) =X_{\rho(\sigma)\alpha}. On the other hand, the natural operation of Gal(k‾/k\overline{k}/k) on k‾\overline{k} can be extended to an operation on g‾0\overline{\mathfrak{g}}_0. Let g\mathfrak{g} be the subset of g‾0\overline{\mathfrak{g}}_0 consisting of the elements xx such that ρσ(x)=σ−1.x\rho_{\sigma}(x) =\sigma^{-1}.x for all σ∈\sigma \in Gal(k‾/k\overline{k}/k).

a) Show that g\mathfrak{g} is a kk-Lie subalgebra of g‾0\overline{\mathfrak{g}}_0, and that the injection of g\mathfrak{g} into g‾0\overline{\mathfrak{g}}_0 extends to an isomorphism from k‾⊗kg\overline{k}\otimes_k\mathfrak{g} to g‾0\overline{\mathfrak{g}}_0. In particular, g\mathfrak{g} is semi-simple.

b) Let b0\mathfrak{b}_0 be the subalgebra of g0\mathfrak{g}_0 generated by h0\mathfrak{h}_0 and the XαX_{\alpha}. Put

b‾0=k‾⊗kb0,h=g∩b‾0,h‾0=k‾⊗kh0,h=g∩h‾0 \overline{\mathfrak{b}}_0= \overline{k}\otimes_k\mathfrak{b}_0,\mathfrak{h}=\mathfrak{g}\cap \overline{\mathfrak{b}}_0,\overline{\mathfrak{h}}_0= \overline{k}\otimes_k\mathfrak{h}_0,\mathfrak{h}=\mathfrak{g}\cap \overline{\mathfrak{h}}_0

Show that k‾⊗kb=b‾0\overline{k}\otimes_k\mathfrak{b}= \overline{\mathfrak{b}}_0 and that k‾⊗kh=h‾0\overline{k}\otimes_k\mathfrak{h}= \overline{\mathfrak{h}}_0, so that b\mathfrak{b} is a Borel subalgebra of g\mathfrak{g} and h\mathfrak{h} is a Cartan subalgebra contained in it.
