Let U0U^0 be the commutant of h\mathfrak{h} in U(g)U(\mathfrak{g}) (cf. §6, no. 4).

a) Let V be a (finite dimensional) g\mathfrak{g}-module. Show that the Vλ,λ∈PV^{\lambda},\lambda \in P, are stable under U0U^0, and that, if V is simple and Vλ≠0,VλV^{\lambda}\not= 0, V^{\lambda} is a simple U0U^0-module (use the decomposition U(g)=⊕UλU(\mathfrak{g}) =\oplus U^{\lambda}, loc. cit.).

b) Show that, for every element c≠0c\not= 0 of U0U^0, there exists a finite dimensional simple representation ρ\rho of U0U^0 such that ρ(c)≠0\rho (c)\not= 0. (Use aa) and Chap. I, §7, Exerc. 3a).)3a).)
