Exercise 4, § 7

General Topology, I, 133

a) Let X,YX, Y be two topological spaces, F\mathfrak{F} a filter on XX having a cluster point aa, and G\mathfrak{G} a filter on YY having a cluster point bb. Show that (a,b)(a, b) is a cluster point of the product filter F×G\mathfrak{F} \times \mathfrak{G}.

b) In the product space Q2\mathbf{Q}^2, give an example of a sequence (xn,yn)(x_n, y_n) which has no cluster points although each of the sequences (xn),(yn)(x_n), (y_n) has a cluster point in Q\mathbf{Q}.
