A subset AA of a topological space XX is said to be primitive if it is the set of limit points of an ultrafilter on XX. Let ΥA\Upsilon_A denote the set of ultrafilters on XX whose set of limit points is AA.

a) If AA is a primitive subset of XX, show that every open subset of XX which meets AA belongs to all the ultrafilters U∈ΥAU \in \Upsilon_A.

b) Let A,BA, B be two distinct primitive subsets of XX. Show that there is an ultrafilter U∈ΥAU \in \Upsilon_A, an ultrafilter B∈ΥB\mathfrak{B} \in \Upsilon_B and a subset MM of XX such that M∈UM \in U and ∁M∈B\complement M \in \mathfrak{B}.

c) Let f:X→Yf : X \to Y be a continuous mapping. Show that the image under ff of any primitive subset of XX is contained in a primitive subset of YY.

d) If x∈Xx \in X and {x}\{x\} is closed in XX, show that {x}\{x\} is a primitive subset of XX.
