Let XX be a uniform space, U\mathfrak{U} its uniformity, U~\tilde{\mathfrak{U}} the corresponding uniformity on P(X)\mathfrak{P}(X) (§1§ 1, Exercise 5). a) Show that the mapping x→{x}x \to \{x\} is an isomorphism of the uniform space XX onto a subspace of the uniform space P(X)\mathfrak{P}(X). b) Show that the uniformity induced by U~\tilde{\mathfrak{U}} on the set F(X)\mathfrak{F}(X) of non-empty closed subsets of XX is Hausdorff, and that U~\tilde{\mathfrak{U}} is the inverse image under the mapping M→M‾M \to \overline{M} of the uniformity induced by U~\tilde{\mathfrak{U}} on F(X)\mathfrak{F}(X). c) Show that the mapping (M,N)→M∪N(M, N) \to M \cup N of P(X)×P(X)\mathfrak{P}(X) \times \mathfrak{P}(X) into P(X)\mathfrak{P}(X) is uniformly continuous. d) Let YY be another uniform space. If f:X→Yf : X \to Y is a uniformly continuous mapping, show that the mapping M→f(M)M \to f(M) of P(X)\mathfrak{P}(X) into P(Y)\mathfrak{P}(Y) is uniformly continuous. e) Let B\mathfrak{B} be a compact subset of the set F(X)\mathfrak{F}(X) of non-empty closed subsets of XX, F(X)\mathfrak{F}(X) carrying the topology induced by the topology T(U~)\mathfrak{T}(\tilde{\mathfrak{U}}) induced by U~\tilde{\mathfrak{U}}. Show that the set ⋃M∈BM\bigcup_{M \in \mathfrak{B}} M is closed in XX.
