Let $G$ be a locally compact totally disconnected topological group whose left and right uniformities coincide. Show that every neighbourhood of $e$ in $G$ contains a compact open normal subgroup of $G$ (use Corollary 1 to Proposition 14 of no. 6, and Exercise 3 of $\S$ 3).
