Exercise 18, § 6

General Topology, III, 319

Let KK be a Hausdorff topological division ring, let AA be a closed subset of KK and let BB be a compact subset of KK such that o∉Bo \notin B. Show that ABAB and BABA are closed in KK (cf. § 4, no. 1, Proposition 1, Corollary 1). \* In the field R\mathbf{R} of real numbers, give an example where AA is closed, and BB is compact, o∈Bo \in B and ABAB is not closed. \*
