Exercise 6, § 5

General Topology, IV, 390

Let X1X_1 (resp. X2X_2) be a set filtered by a filter F1\mathfrak{F}_1 (resp. F2\mathfrak{F}_2) and let ff be a real-valued function defined on X1×X2X_1 \times X_2. Show by an example that the three numbers lim⁡sup⁡F1×F2f(x1,x2)\lim \sup_{\mathfrak{F}_1 \times \mathfrak{F}_2} f(x_1, x_2), lim⁡sup⁡F1(lim⁡sup⁡F2f(x1,x2))\lim \sup_{\mathfrak{F}_1} (\lim \sup_{\mathfrak{F}_2} f(x_1, x_2)), lim⁡sup⁡F2(lim⁡sup⁡F1f(x1,x2))\lim \sup_{\mathfrak{F}_2} (\lim \sup_{\mathfrak{F}_1} f(x_1, x_2)) are in general distinct.
