Exercise 10, § 6

General Topology, IV, 396

Extend Definition 1, Proposition 1 and Theorem 3 to functions defined on a topological space XX which take their values in an arbitrary linearly ordered set YY. If ff and gg are two mappings of XX into YY, both lower semi-continuous at a point aa, then inf⁡(f,g)\inf (f, g) and sup⁡(f,g)\sup (f, g) are lower semi-continuous at aa. So is f+gf + g if YY is a linearly ordered commutative group.

If YY is compact in the topology T0(Y)\mathfrak{T}_0(Y) (§ 2, Exercise 6), extend Theorem 4 and Propositions 3 and 4 to functions with values in YY.
