Exercise 20, § 7

General Topology, IV, 401

Let (un)(u_n) be a sequence of finite real numbers ⩾0\geqslant 0 such that u0>0u_0 > 0, and let sn=∑k=0nuks_n = \sum_{k=0}^n u_k for each n⩾0n \geqslant 0. Then the sequence (un)(u_n) is summable in R\mathbf{R} if and only if the sequence (un/sn)(u_n/s_n) is summable in R\mathbf{R} [apply Theorem 4 to the sequence (1−un/sn)](1 - u_n/s_n)]. The same holds if the sequence (un/sn)(u_n/s_n) is replaced by the sequence (un/sn−1)(u_n/s_{n-1}).
