General Topology, IX

a) Let XX be a Baire space, YY a metric space, (fn)(f_n) a sequence of continuous mappings of XX into YY such that, for each x∈Xx \in X, the sequence (fn(x))(f_n(x)) has a limit f(x)f(x) in YY. Then the set of all points x∈Xx \in X at which ff is not continuous is meagre. [Prove that, for each integer n>0n > 0, the set of all points x∈Xx \in X at which the oscillation ω(x;f)\omega(x; f) of ff is ≤1/n\leq 1/n contains a dense open set; for this, if GpG_p denotes the set of x∈Xx \in X for which the distance from fp(x)f_p(x) to fq(x)f_q(x) is ≤1/2n\leq 1/2n for all q≥pq \geq p, show that the union of the interiors of the sets GpG_p is a dense open set.]

b) Let KK be the compact interval [0,1][0, 1] in R\mathbf{R}. Give an example of a sequence of continuous mappings fnf_n of KK into the compact space KKK^K such that lim⁡n→∞fn(x)=f(x)\lim_{n \to \infty} f_n(x) = f(x) exists for each x∈Kx \in K, but such that ff is not continuous at any point of KK.
