Exercise 18, § 6

General Topology, IX

Let XX be a Souslin space, X′X' a metrizable space of countable type and let ff be a mapping of XX into X′X'.

a) Show that if the graph GG of ff is a Souslin set in X×X′X \times X', then ff is a Borel function and therefore [Exercise 17 c)] GG is a Borel set (use Theorem 2, Corollary).

b) Show that if ff is an injective Borel mapping and if X′X' is a Souslin space, then the image under ff of any Souslin set in XX is a Souslin set in X′X' (use Exercise 17 c)). If ff is bijective, the inverse mapping is also a Borel mapping.
