General Topology, VII

Let φ\varphi be the canonical homomorphism of Rn\mathbf{R}^n onto Tn\mathbf{T}^n and let uu be a linear mapping of Rm\mathbf{R}^m into Rn\mathbf{R}^n. For φ∘u\varphi \circ u to be a strict morphism of Rm\mathbf{R}^m into Tn\mathbf{T}^n it is necessary and sufficient that either:

a) u‾1(Zn)\overline{u}^1(\mathbf{Z}^n) is of rank mm; or

b) u(Rm)∩Znu(\mathbf{R}^m) \cap \mathbf{Z}^n is of rank equal to the dimension of u(Rm)u(\mathbf{R}^m).
