General Topology, VIII

Show that every continuous homomorphism (necessarily injective) ff of the topological field C\mathbf{C} onto a subfield of C\mathbf{C} is either the identity automorphism or the automorphism z→z‾z \to \overline{z}. [Note that we must have f(x)=xf(x) = x for all x∈Qx \in \mathbf{Q}, and deduce that f(x)=xf(x) = x for all x∈Rx \in \mathbf{R}.] Show that there exist an infinite number of discontinuous isomorphisms of C\mathbf{C} onto subfields of C\mathbf{C} other than C\mathbf{C} itself.
