Exercise 1, § 1

General Topology, X

Let XX be a set, let YY be a uniform space containing more than one point, and let S\mathscr{S} be a non-empty set of non-empty subsets of XX. Let Y′⊂F(X;Y)Y' \subset \mathscr{F}(X; Y) be the set of all constant mappings of XX into YY. For each y∈Yy \in Y, let cyc_y be the constant mapping of XX into YY whose value is yy.

a) Show that y→cyy \to c_y is an isomorphism of YY onto the uniform subspace Y′Y' of FS(X;Y)\mathscr{F}_{\mathscr{S}}(X; Y).

b) FS(X;Y)\mathscr{F}_{\mathscr{S}}(X; Y) is Hausdorff if and only if YY is Hausdorff and S\mathscr{S} is a covering of XX.

c) Y′Y' is closed in FS(X;Y)\mathscr{F}_{\mathscr{S}}(X; Y) if and only if FS(X;Y)\mathscr{F}_{\mathscr{S}}(X; Y) is Hausdorff.
