Algebra, VIII, p. 28, § 2. The Structure of Modules of Finite Length

Suppose that M is a direct sum of two submodules N and I that are stable under uu and that uu induces a nilpotent endomorphism uNu_N of N and an automorphism of I. We then have N∞=NN_{\infty}= N and I∞=II_{\infty}= I, and the sequences (Np)(N_p) and (Ip)(I_p) are stationary. Moreover, the following integers are equal:

α)\alpha ) the least integer p⩾0p\geqslant 0 such that Np=N∞N_p= N_{\infty},

β)\beta ) the least integer q⩾0q\geqslant 0 such that Iq=I∞I_q= I_{\infty},

γ)\gamma ) the least integer r⩾0r\geqslant 0 such that (uN)r=0(u_N)^r= 0.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
