Algebra, VIII, p. 45, § 3. Simple Modules

Let K be a field, V a nonzero right vector space over the field K, and A a subring of the ring EndK(V)_K(V) containing the endomorphisms of V of finite rank (for example, A = EndK(V)_K(V)). Let us prove that V is a simple A-module: let W be a nonzero A-submodule of V and xx a nonzero element of W; there exists a linear form φ\varphi on V such that φ(x)≠0\varphi (x)\not= 0 (II, §7, No. 5, p. 300, Theorem 6). For every yy in V, the mapping z↦yφ(z)z\mapsto y\varphi (z), which is linear of rank ⩽1\leqslant 1, belongs to A; we therefore have Ax=VAx= V, hence a fortiori W = V, which proves that V is a simple A-module.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
