Algebra, VIII, p. 52

Let A be a ring and m\mathfrak{m} a maximal left ideal of A. Let B be the set of elements bb of A such that mb⊂m\mathfrak{m}b\subset \mathfrak{m}. Prove that B is the largest subring of A containing m\mathfrak{m} in which m\mathfrak{m} is a two-sided ideal. Let S be the A-module As/m,DA_s/\mathfrak{m}, D its commutant, and π\pi the canonical mapping from AsA_s to S. Prove that, given b∈Bb\in B, there exists a unique element ubu_b of EndA(S)_A(S) such that ub(π(a))=π(ab)u_b(\pi (a)) =\pi (ab) for every a∈Aa\in A. The mapping b↦ubb\mapsto u_b induces an isomorphism from B/mB/\mathfrak{m} to EndA(S)_A(S).
