Algebra, VIII, p. 130

Let A be a ring.

a) Let a\mathfrak{a} be a minimal left ideal of A. Prove that we have a2=0\mathfrak{a}^2= 0 or a2=a\mathfrak{a}^2=\mathfrak{a}. In the latter case, show that there exists an idempotent ee in a\mathfrak{a} such that a=Ae\mathfrak{a}= Ae (if a∈Aa\in A is such that aa=a\mathfrak{a}a=\mathfrak{a}, consider the automorphism x↦xax\mapsto xa of a\mathfrak{a}).

b) Let ee be an idempotent in A. The ideal AeAe is minimal if and only if the ring eAeeAe is a field.

c) Let a\mathfrak{a} and b\mathfrak{b} be two isomorphic left ideals of A. Prove that we have ab=b\mathfrak{a}\mathfrak{b}=\mathfrak{b} if a2=a\mathfrak{a}^2=\mathfrak{a}, and ab=0\mathfrak{a}\mathfrak{b}= 0 if a2=0\mathfrak{a}^2= 0.
