Algebra, VIII, p. 142, § 8. Semisimple Rings
a) Order the set of subsets of and the set of two-sided ideals of A by inclusion. The mapping is an isomorphism of ordered sets from to .
b) The minimal two-sided ideals of A are the ideals .
c) We have for every , and the ideals are the maximal two-sided ideals of A.
d) For every , the canonical mapping from A to induces an isomorphism of A-modules from to .
Assertion a) follows from Proposition 8, d) of VIII, p. 87 applied to the A-module . It follows that the minimal two-sided ideals of A are the and that the maximal two-sided ideals are the ideals (for ).
It remains to show the equality of and for every . Let and be distinct in . The A-submodule of is the union of the images of the linear mappings from to for . Consequently, it is zero, and we have . We therefore have , and finally because is a maximal two-sided ideal of A and is distinct from A.
Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
