Algebra, VIII, p. 147, § 8. Semisimple Rings

Suppose that the ring A is semisimple.

a) For every λ∈S,eλ\lambda \in \mathscr{S},e_{\lambda} is the unique element of the center Z of A satisfying the relations (eλ)Sλ=1Sλ(e_{\lambda})_{S_{\lambda}}= 1_{S_{\lambda}} and (eλ)Sμ=0(e_{\lambda})_{S_\mu}= 0 for μ≠λ\mu\not=\lambda.

b) The indecomposable idempotents in the ring Z are the eλe_{\lambda}, and the minimal ideals of Z are the ZeλZe_{\lambda} for λ∈S\lambda \in \mathscr{S}.

c) Let M be an A-module and (Mλ)λ∈S(M_{\lambda})_{\lambda\in\mathscr{S}} the family of its isotypical components. The family of projectors associated with the decomposition of M into the direct sum of the MλM_{\lambda} (VIII, p. 65) is ((eλ)M)λ∈S((e_{\lambda})_M)_{\lambda\in\mathscr{S}}, and we have Mλ=aλMM_{\lambda}=\mathfrak{a}_{\lambda}M for every λ∈S\lambda \in \mathscr{S}.

Let λ\lambda and μ\mu be distinct in S\mathscr{S}. We have eλ∈aλe_{\lambda}\in \mathfrak{a}_{\lambda}, and aλ\mathfrak{a}_{\lambda} is contained in the annihilator bμ\mathfrak{b}_\mu of the A-module SμS_\mu (VIII, p. 142, Proposition 9). We therefore have (eλ)Sμ=0(e_{\lambda})_{S_\mu}= 0. The relation (eλ)Sλ=1Sλ(e_{\lambda})_{S_{\lambda}}= 1_{S_{\lambda}} follows because we have 1=∑ν∈Seν1 =\sum_{\nu\in\mathscr{S}}e_{\nu}. Assertion a) is then a consequence of Proposition 8 of VIII, p. 141.

Let λ\lambda be in S\mathscr{S}. The two-sided ideal aλ\mathfrak{a}_{\lambda} of A consists of the elements xx such that x=xeλx=xe_{\lambda}; we therefore have Z∩aλ=ZeλZ\cap \mathfrak{a}_{\lambda}= Ze_{\lambda}, and therefore b) by Proposition 10, b).

Let us prove c). Let xx be an element of M. We have eλ∈aλe_{\lambda}\in \mathfrak{a}_{\lambda} for every λ∈S\lambda \in \mathscr{S}. Since the mapping a↦axa\mapsto ax from AsA_s to M is A-linear, we have aλx⊂Mλ\mathfrak{a}_{\lambda}x\subset M_{\lambda} (VIII, p. 66, Proposition 5) and, in particular, eλx∈Mλe_{\lambda}x\in M_{\lambda}. We have 1=∑λ∈Seλ1 =\sum_{\lambda\in\mathscr{S}}e_{\lambda}, hence x=∑λ∈Seλxx=\sum_{\lambda\in\mathscr{S}}e_{\lambda}x. Consequently, eλxe_{\lambda}x is the component of xx in MλM_{\lambda}.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
