Algebra, VIII, p. 198, § 11. Grothendieck Groups

Let g\mathfrak{g} be a Lie algebra over a commutative field K and U(g)U(\mathfrak{g}) its enveloping algebra; we identify g\mathfrak{g} with its canonical image in U(g)(U(\mathfrak{g}) (Lie, I, §2, No. 7, p. 39, Corollary 2). We endow U(g)U(\mathfrak{g}) with the structure of a bigebra with coproduct cc and counit γ\gamma given by

c(ξ)=ξ⊗1+1⊗ξ,γ(ξ)=0(17) c(\xi ) =\xi \otimes 1 + 1\otimes \xi ,\gamma (\xi ) = 0 \tag{17}

for ξ∈g(\xi \in \mathfrak{g}(Lie, II, §1, No. 4, p. 115).

Let E and F be U(gU(\mathfrak{g})-modules; by formula (17), the U(gU(\mathfrak{g})-module structure on E⊗FE\otimes F is characterized by

ξ(x⊗y)=ξx⊗y+x⊗ξy(18) \xi (x\otimes y) =\xi x\otimes y+x\otimes \xi y \tag{18}

for ξ∈g,x∈E\xi \in \mathfrak{g},x\in E, and y∈Fy\in F.

The Grothendieck ring RK(U(g))R_K(U(\mathfrak{g})) is also denoted by R(g)\mathscr{R}(\mathfrak{g}) in Lie, VIII,

§7, No. 6, p. 139.∗139.*

Let A be a commutative ring. We can view A as a bigebra that is cocommutative over itself, with coproduct the natural isomorphism from A to A⊗AAA\otimes_AA and counit IdA_A (III, §11, No. 4, p. 585). By Proposition 9, we obtain the following result.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
