Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

Take the assumptions and notation of Exercise 8. Denote by f′:D→Bf': D\rightarrow B and g′:D→Ag': D\rightarrow A the homomorphisms deduced from the two projections and by

φ1:K1(D)→K1(A)×K1(B)\varphi_1: K_1(D)\rightarrow K_1(A)\times K_1(B) and ψ1:K1(A)×K1(B)→K1(C)\psi_1: K_1(A)\times K_1(B)\rightarrow K_1(C)

the mappings defined by φ1(z)=(g′∗(z),f′∗(z))\varphi_1(z) = (g^{'*}(z), f^{'*}(z)) and ψ1(x,y)=f∗(x)−g∗(y)\psi_1(x, y) =f^*(x)-g^*(y). a) Prove that the sequence

K1(D)⟶φ1K1(A)×K1(B)⟶ψ1K1(C) K_1(D)\longrightarrow^{\varphi_1}K_1(A)\times K_1(B)\longrightarrow^{\psi_1}K_1(C)

is exact (observe that f(E(A))=E(C)f(E(A)) = E(C)). Prove that if, moreover, there exists a ring homomorphism s:C→As: C\rightarrow A such that f∘s=f\circ s= IdC_C, then ψ1\psi_1 is surjective.

b) For any integer nn and any element gg of GLn\mathbf{G}\mathbf{L}_n(C), denote by PgP_g the projective D-module associated with the modules AnA^n and BnB^n and the isomorphism from C⊗AAnC\otimes_AA^n to C⊗BBnC\otimes_BB^n with matrix gg (Exercise 8). Construct a homomorphism ∂:K1(C)→K0(D)\partial : K_1(C)\rightarrow K_0(D) such that ∂∘ιn(g)=[Pg]−[Dsn]\partial \circ \iota_n(g) = [P_g]-[D^n_s] for every integer nn and every element gg of GLn(C)\mathbf{G}\mathbf{L}_n(C).

c) Prove that the sequence

K1(D)⟶φ1K1(A)×K1(B)⟶ψ1K1(C)⟶∂K0(D)⟶φ0K0(A)×K0(B)⟶ψ0K0(C) K_1(D)\longrightarrow^{\varphi_1}K_1(A)\times K_1(B)\longrightarrow^{\psi_1}K_1(C)\longrightarrow^{\partial}K_0(D)\longrightarrow^{\varphi_0}K_0(A)\times K_0(B)\longrightarrow^{\psi_0}K_0(C)

is exact.
