Algebra, VIII, p. 412, § 21. Linear Representations of Finite Groups

Let ff be a central function on G and uu be a central function on H. We have

(33) ⟨\langleIndHG(u),f⟩G=⟨u^G_H(u), f\rangle_G=\langle u, ResHG(f)⟩H^G_H(f)\rangle_H.

The characters of the simple representations of G form a basis of Z(K[G]) (VIII, p. 411, Proposition 5), and the same holds for H. It therefore suffices to establish (33) in the case when ff is the character χπ\chi_{\pi} of a simple representation π\pi of G and uu is the character χσ\chi_{\sigma} of a simple representation σ\sigma of H. In this case, IndHG(u)^G_H(u) is the character of the representation IndHG(σ)^G_H(\sigma ) of G, and, by VIII, p. 410, Corollary, we have

⟨\langleIndHG(u),f⟩G=^G_H(u), f\rangle_G= (dimK_K HomG_G(IndHG(σ),π^G_H(\sigma ), \pi ))⋅1\cdot 1.

We show the relation

⟨u\langle u, ResHG(f)⟩H=^G_H(f)\rangle_H= (dimK_K HomH(σ_H(\sigma, ResHG(π)^G_H(\pi )))⋅1\cdot 1

likewise, and equality (33) follows by Frobenius reciprocity.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
